On their 30th Balidan Diwas, **SAO Defence Academy** remembers and pays tribute to **Flt Lt Sandeep Jain, Pilot Officer Vaibhav Bhagwat, Sergeant Krishna C. Jha, and Sergeant R. Murigappa** of **130 Helicopter Unit, Indian Air Force**. On **26 August 1996**, during **Operation Meghdoot**, the brave crew flew repeated supply missions to Army posts near the Siachen Glacier, facing extreme weather and the constant threat of enemy fire. After successfully completing two sorties, they undertook a third mission to deliver vital supplies. After completing the supply drop, their helicopter came under intense enemy ground fire. A direct hit brought the aircraft down in the icy mountains, and all four Air Warriors made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. They flew where few could. They served so others could stand guard. 🇮🇳 **A SALUTE TO A BRAVEHEART — MAJOR AMIT AHUJA** 🇮🇳 Some stories are not just remembered—they are **honoured for generations.** On **22 August 2001**, in the challenging heights of **Gurez Sector, Jammu & Kashmir**, Major Amit Ahuja of **2 Dogra Battalion** displayed extraordinary courage while leading his men during intense firing from across the Line of Control. Wounded during the fierce exchange, he continued to embody the courage and determination expected of an Indian Army officer. He was later evacuated to **92 Base Hospital, Srinagar**, where he succumbed to his injuries. #saodefenceacademy Remembers 🎖️ Major Ranbir Katoch, Sena Medal 🗓️ Balidan Diwas – 21 August A courageous officer of the Corps of Army Air Defence, Major Ranbir Katoch made the supreme sacrifice on 21 August 1999 during a counter-insurgency operation in Anantnag, Jammu & Kashmir. Acting on intelligence about terrorists hiding in Sunglan village, Maj Katoch led a search-and-destroy mission into the dense forested hills. When the terrorists opened fire from concealed positions, he charged their hideout despite being wounded, eliminating two terrorists before succumbing to his injuries. His fearless leadership and unwavering devotion to duty reflected the highest traditions of the Indian Army. For his exceptional courage and supreme sacrifice, he was posthumously awarded the Sena Medal. 8 years ago today, India lost a brave Gorkha soldier whose courage and unwavering fighting spirit continue to inspire us all. 🕯️ Rifleman Ram Babu Shahi, of 1 Gorkha Rifles, serving with 32 Rashtriya Rifles, made the supreme sacrifice on 17 August 2018 during an anti-insurgency operation in Baramulla, Jammu & Kashmir. Acting on intelligence about the presence of heavily armed terrorists in Kachhlu village of Rafiabad, a joint force comprising the Indian Army, CRPF, and J&K Police launched a carefully planned operation on 17 August 2018. Rifleman Ram Babu Shahi was part of the Army contingent tasked with cordoning off the area and flushing out the terrorists. As the search operation progressed, the terrorists opened heavy fire from their hiding positions, triggering a fierce gun battle. In the intense exchange of fire, Rifleman Ram Babu Shahi was critically wounded while fighting alongside his comrades. Despite being evacuated to the Army's 92 Base Hospital in Srinagar, he succumbed to his injuries, laying down his life in the line of duty. Jai Hind!

#saodefenceacademy remembers the 18 brave personnel of *INS Sindhurakshak* on their 13th 'Balidan Diwas'. 📍 *Indian Navy* | Kilo-class Submarine ⚔️ *14 August 2013* | Mumbai Harbour | Peacetime Accident On the eve of Independence Day in 2013, tragedy struck the #IndianNavy. INS Sindhurakshak, a 3000-tonne submarine, was docked in Mumbai fully armed with missiles and torpedoes and scheduled to sail for patrol that day. A series of massive explosions in the weapons compartment triggered fire and flooding. The blasts melted internal hull sections and deformed hatches, turning the vessel into an inferno within minutes. Despite zero visibility, toxic smoke, and treacherous conditions, Naval divers and rescue teams worked relentlessly. They pried open the conning tower, deployed heavy pumps, and entered the wreck again and again to bring back their shipmates. The 18 Bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice: Lt Cdr Nikhilesh Pal, Lt Cdr Alok Kumar, Lt Cdr R Venkitaraj, POUW-I Sanjeev Kumar, POUW-I K.C. Upadhyay, POUW-I Timothy Sinha, LSUC-I Kewal Singh, SEA I UW-III Sunil Kumar, Mech-R 2 Dasari Prasad, LEMP Liju Lawrence, LME Rajesh Tootika, STD-I Amit K. In the early hours of 11 August 2022, heavily armed terrorists attempted to storm an Army post at Parghal in Rajouri. Alert soldiers of 11 Rajputana Rifles detected the suspicious movement and immediately challenged the intruders. What followed was a fierce firefight that lasted for several hours. ⚔️ Leading from the front, Subedar Rajendra Prasad Bhambhu and his comrades fought with exceptional courage and determination, successfully eliminating both terrorists and preventing a major tragedy. In the gallant action, Subedar Rajendra Prasad Bhambhu, Rifleman Manoj Kumar, Rifleman Nishant Malik, and Rifleman Lakshmanan D sustained grievous injuries and made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
